The Intag region in Ecuador is a biodiverse home to several species facing extinction. It's also home to fierce community and environmental activists working to protect their land.

But if we don't act now, then community organisations could be silenced and Intag could turn into an open pit mine like the one pictured above.

Unfortunately, most of Intag has been conceded to mining companies that plan to develop open pit mines that put the region at risk. Even worse, the government is turning on its own people.

Ecuador has unleashed a wave of repression against communities trying to protect their land from mining companies. UN experts have spoken out, saying, "It seems Ecuador's government is systematically dissolving organisations when they become too vocal or challenge official orthodoxy."

This is both a human rights and environmental issue that we cannot back down on. These local communities are fighting for their land and they deserve to be heard.

International pressure has worked before in stopping the government from shutting down environmental organisations. We cannot let up the fight now.

Please add your voice to stand with local communities in Ecuador who are working to protect their land from mining companies.
